It’s hard to believe but I have been in the work force for over 20 years now. Over 20 years in the world of business and one brief role in ministry. In that 20 years I have started at the bottom and spent time up and down that Corporate Ladder. I’ve worked for some great leaders and some not so great leaders. I’ve been a leader and probably not so great leader too. It’s odd but leadership fascinates me. Great leadership inspires me. That is why I enjoyed this book.
The new book by Tim Irwin called “Impact – Great Leadership Changes Everything” hit at the most opportune time for me. I can testify to every word in this book. I am living and working in an environment and business that shows precisely what Tim Irwin is writing about. According to Irwin, there are three ingredients to successful leadership - style (the outward face), conduct (the leader’s actions), and core (the inner person of the leader).
Over the past few years I have served under leaders that were living examples of these ingredients. That is both good and bad. I’ve seen how this can positively or negatively impact those that are under this leadership. Currently I work for a man that breathes life into our organization with his positive style, the way he conducts himself and the core of who he is. I’ve also served under someone who had the style part, but his conduct and core were something I still question (which is probably why I’m no longer serving under that leader). To have all three ingredients is critical to success.
Impact is a great read. It’s a great model of leadership. If you’re a leader or just enjoy the study of leadership as I do, I highly recommend it.
