Review – Manhood Restored

manhood-restoredFor as often as I am accused of handing over my man card, the title alone probably brought a few of my regulars a laugh or two. Maybe that’s why I was given the opportunity to review this new book by Eric Mason. “Manhood Restored – How The Gospel Makes Men Whole” is a call to action. This book gives a sobering look at a generation of men that has gone absent from our churches, from our workplaces and from our homes. It is a wake up call to return to the biblical examples of manhood.

Mason opens the book by stating his case and then setting the pace. He begins by exploring “The Life and Death of Manhood” and follows it with “The Impact of Daddy Depravity.” I found both of these chapters interesting because I know I have personally had these conversations with other men I know. I have long been convinced that this generation is one that swears they will be present and not absent. The men I know are actively engaged in their families and their children’s lives and activities. Manhood Restored would argue otherwise. It also makes the case that theres a difference between being there and being actively involved.

Real Men Mason Book Quote

I have no data to prove this (although I’m sure it exists) but I would guess that majority of the men in churches were either invited by their wife, girlfriend or mom. In other words, men are not leading their homes to church. While there are a lot of great male bloggers, I would guess that the number of female bloggers far outweighs male bloggers. Men exist, but what Eric Mason is suggesting is that we are not present. We are not actively participating in our homes, our families and our own lives. Using scripture as a road map, Mason delivers a strong call to return to our place in this world and to return to our manhood.

“Manhood Restored” is a great read. You will be challenged to rise to the challenge of manhood with Christ as your example.

I give it a 4 out of 5.
